Final Standings for PBA One On One - 13th Place

Last week was the last week in the Brunswick Premier PBA 1 on 1 league that I've been bowling since January. I must say I had a most difficult time with this league this Spring. It has easily been one of the worst performances I've ever turned out in league and it's utterly embarrassing. I managed an average of 178 over 66 games on 5 PBA patterns throughout this league. In the end I placed 13th of 19 bowlers. I've bowled four other PBA Patterned leagues over the past few years and never bowled less than 190 for a season so 178 is far more than a blip on the radar map; it's like a neon flashing billboard on the route to Vegas.
Anyway, I started off lousy in the league averaging 169 through the first three weeks of the league and then leveled off with an average of ~180 for the remainder of the season. You can see my final stats for the league here.
My wife has continually told me that I shouldn't be bowling in this league because it is structurally not a good place to bowl. That sounds a little vague but I mean that the approaches at the center are not conducive to consistent competitive bowling. I have even have ranted about this before. The problem lies with the air conditioning unit I believe. When the air kicks on it pulls air in from outside and spits it into the center. This brings the humidity inside the center up quickly and as a result the ground can go from slippery one frame to abruptly sticky the next with very little warning. This is dangerous and not normal. I've never experienced this in any other bowling center anywhere.
Anyway, all that is to say my mind is always a bit preoccupied at this league and eventually I stop caring about performance although I always care about the final result. Right now I care and it's embarrassing but if I were bowling at the center I would not care as much because it doesn't seem worth it to care.
I firmly believe that my abilities have not diminished by that much if at all since last summer so this summer's league season will be a fine test with my fourth season with Kearny Mesa Bowl's Open Doubles league. The last three years I averaged 190, 191, and 195 and this year I hope to put to rest my 178 league average by proving what I can do in quality facilities when I really care about the results. Week 1 starts Monday the 4th of May. I'll be bowling the entire season with Llyle Rollins as my partner. We should have a good time and fare well.
