Two Months Without Bowling

The last time I posted to the blog I was about a week away from flying out to Reno for the USBC Open Championships and right after I made that last post about the USBC Tournament Oil Pattern being released I went and broke my knee.

As you can imagine I never got out to Reno and my team had to grab a sub bowler for the tournament - this was very disappointing to say the least.

Anyway, I wanted to give a status report - I've officially been out of bowling since the first week of March and haven't touched a ball since February 28th. I'm going on 2 1/2 months away from bowling and I'm starting to miss it.

I have no idea yet when I'll be able to hit the lanes again but I'm starting to get the bug again as my physical therapy is starting to show signs of progress in my long-term outlook.

Unfortunately I won't be bowling any tournaments any time soon and I'm not going to be bowling in the best open scratch bowling league in Southern California this year either but I do look forward to seeing how these things shape up as the summer gets started.

If anyone out there has yet to hit up Nationals let me say good luck to you and check out my slightly non-complete 2011 USBC Open Championships page here on the blog. I'll report back when I start planning my first trip back to the lanes - I'm sure it will only be for a game at most later this summer.

Kids Bowling Shoes – The Best Bowling Shoes For Kids

Thursday, May 12, 2011 3 comments

One of the most popular types of birthday parties for kids these days is the bowling alley birthday party. You take a big group of kids out to the lanes, rent them all bowling shoes, pay for an hour or two on the lanes, and have a great time. Bowling center’s love hosting these parties because they are so lucrative. As a parent however they are costly and in the event your child takes a fondness to bowling the rental cost of shoes is going to add up.

As an avid bowler myself I’m a big fan of the kids taking an interest in bowling and wanting to do it more. These parties are a good way to get kid’s bowling from a young age and they are a way of getting them into the sport but without graduating them to leagues and practice outside of a one-time party scene they are unlikely to become avid bowlers.

As a parent if you want your child to be bowling just to give him or her an activity to be involved in then bowling is a great option. Normal practice and league bowling is quite affordable when compared to the high cost of bowling parties but the best way to limit your expenses is to bit the bullet and buy your kids bowling shoes before you eat too many bowling shoe rental fees.

When I was a kid I rented shoes for $1 and I went bowling every week one to two times. Very quickly I find yourself a decent pair of cheap bowling shoes which I was able to save money on in the long run. It only took a couple months before I offset my shoe rental expenses. These days the purchase of bowling shoes for kids will pay you back much quicker as bowling shoe rentals are sometimes $3-$4 a piece.

Cheap & Simple Bowling Shoes For Kids

If you need to buy your child a pair of bowling shoes but don’t want to invest too much then I recommend just heading over to Amazon.com’s listing of kid’s bowling shoes here. These are simple shoes that won’t cost you much and can save you money in the long run over shoe rental fees. If your child becomes more active in bowling and needs better shoes you can always trade up but to start off your child doesn’t need all the fancy features that are common on adults bowling shoes.

If on the other hand it looks like your child is interested in bowling in a league, learning to throw a hook, and possibly competing in bowling on a regular basis then it may be worth looking into higher end kid’s bowling shoes from the likes of Dexter, Ebonite, Lindz, or Dynothane. Some of these shoes can be found on Amazon and the prices might be lower but you will get a lot more selection by shopping over at Bowling.com as well.

Cheap Kids Bowling Shoes

For the new bowler these are decent cheap bowling shoes by some of the major brands. They are simple shoes that don’t cost much and they are all fine for young bowlers and almost all of these shoes can be purchased for around $20-$30 a pair.

Best Bowling Shoes For Youth Bowlers

If you want to get your child off to a good start in bowling then you should invest in some higher end youth bowling shoes. The best shoes have interchangeable soles and heels for better slide control. The cheaper shoes don’t usually have these interchangeable soles but they are still good options. These three are listed on Amazon for roughly between $30-$50.

The above kids shoes are good options but the best are found over on Bowling.com in their kid’s shoe section. They usually have excellent discounts so you can be sure you’re getting an excellent price. Here is the direct link to the kid’s bowling shoe section.

Amazon.com is a good place to find generic types of bowling shoes and low cost shoes for kids. They also have some adult options as well but overall the best place to buy is from the specialty bowling retailers like BowlingBall.com and Bowling.com. You can also see more on women’s bowling shoes and men’s bowling shoes here on Mounts Bowling.
